Pondicherry or Puducherry is a historic tourism place in India. It is also called as French Gate way to India. Mix of culture from Tamil, French, Franco Indian, Ashram and Auroville International city makes Puducherry richer.

Situated: Situated about 160 kms from Chennai on the Coromandel Coast.

Pondicherry is the French Capital of India during the French rule.

Attained independence on 1 November 1954 and re-joined as a union territory of India on 1 July 1963.

The Main town of Pondicherry is surrounded by four Boulevard roads.

 Arikamedu  showers the business history of Pondicherry.  It is a Cholas port which associates Beads trading with Romans. Many hand crafts associated with Romans were found in the place. This Archaeological place is found in 1940 and excavated. History dates back to 1 century. Now this is part of the Ariyankuppam commune of Pondicherry. All the items found from the place are now in Pondicherry Museum for the Public view.

Best Shopping Items: Handcrafts like essential oils, Perfumes, scented incense, different aromatic products are famous in Pondicherry.

Many disciples of Sri Aurobindo and Mother - Mirra Alfasa are living all around the world.

Famous Temples:  Manakular Vinayagar temple  situated near the beach is very famous temple. This temple possesses a Golden cart and it can be operated by anybody by paying few thousand rupees only.

 Villiyanur Thiru Kameshwar temple It has a wooden chariot of 15metre tall. 10days of Brahmautsavam is very famous in this temple.

 Vedhpurishwar temple  : This a shiva temple from 18th century

 Varadharaja Perumal temple  Here the divine Narashima sits behind Venkatachalapathy.


Famous Churches:

 Immaculate church  Located in Mission Street. This is church built in 1692. The architect is Portugal Architect.

 Sacred Heart church  Located in South Boulevard.  This 100 year old church build in 1895.Architectural type of this church is Basilica.

Famous Mosque:  JamaiMosque , Meeran Mosque  ,  Kuthbha Mosque . All these Mosques are famous for its architect.

Famous Visit Places: Aayi Mandapam, Gandhi statue, beach etc add more values for "Vedhapuri" that is now called as Pondicherry or Puducherry. Promenade walk is very famous in Pondicherry.

French Food Festival  Gourmet  is organised by Pondicherry Tourism Department every August, Where you can dine a variety of French Tasty Foods.

Botanical Garden has variety of Plants and trees in it. An Aquarium is also inside this as an additional beauty to the garden.

The Government Park which is opposite to the Raj Nivas – The Honourable Governors House, is a Park created by the French and destroyed by the English later. Now it is again flourished with lots of Plants and Flowers. Also many kids playing equipment’s were added to excite the kids.

The Pondicherry Museum: Posses more collections from Romans, China, Greek and different collections excavated from Arikamedu.

Bharthiyar Museum:  Bharathi The Great Poet from Tamil Nadu spent around 10 years in Pondicherry writing various poems. His residence becomes the Bharathi Museum now with all his collection of Books and Poems and also with the materials used by him.

Bharthidhasan Museum:  Bharthidhasan The Great Poet and follower of Bharathi  who is very famous for his Poem writing also spent his life in Pondicherry. His residence becomes the Bharthidhasan Museum now with all his collection of Books and Poems and also with the materials used by him.

Jawahar Toy Museum: A costume collection of dolls can be seen at this Museum which is located at Goubert Salai.

Roman Rolland Library: A very big Library with a lot of collections.

Traditional Houses: Many French and Tamil Tradition Houses is found now in Pondicherry as an Historical Representation.
